Dear Families
A Prayer for Our Dads
Loving God,
We thank You for our Dads.
Thank You for their love, their care, and the important role they play in our families.
Bless them with patience, strength, and joy.
Help us to show them kindness and gratitude every day.
Keep them safe in Your care and surround them with Your love.
Amen.
F.I.R.E. (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education) Carrier Program: last week I did a First Nations lesson with all classes. Aleyan and Jaylah helped me. We have created a display in the Mary MacKillop room that you might like to check out the next time you are at school. We talked about being respectful and inclusive people.
Talent Show
Our Mini Vinnies team organised the best Talent Show. We'd like to thank our judges Maddie McStay, Tom Harrison and Riley Griffin and of course, our host, Beau Treyvaud. We enjoyed comedy and magic acts, singing and dancing and even a taekwondo demonstration. Our winners in F/1/2 were: Popppy and Samuel and in Gr 3/4/5/6 our winners were: Pippa, Evie and Conrad. Congratulations to all the performers, you put on a wonderful show.
Book Week
We had a very exciting Book Week Parade. Thank you parents for helping the students to come dressed as their favourite book character. Gr 4/5 class were judged as the class who showed great positivity and enthusiasm as they paraded around. The parent judges gave special commendation to Ms Midgley for her party dancing in the parade. We were all really impressed Michele, so much fun!
Hello everyone, my name is Yashoda Weerasinghe, 'Yash' in short.I’m originally from Sri Lanka and now live in Warragul with my husband and our 6-year-old child. Family means a lot to me, and I love spending time together, specially, travelling to new places.
I’ve worked as a teacher before, and I truly enjoy being around children and helping them learn and grow. I’m looking forward to giving my best to the school and community, and I’m excited to get to know everyone along the way.
Fun fact: I can never say no to a good chocolate cake – baking and trying new recipes is my happy place.
Their Care (our after school care program) Newsletter
Parents we have a wonderful after school care program that is delivered in the Parish Centre (the red brick building right next to the school). We are encouraging families to use this service as it offers an incredible program at a very reasonable price. Next week the Garden Club will start on Tuesdays and the Sewing Club will start on Thursdays. And then the next week, the kids will have waffles for breakfast on Wednesday morning. All sounds pretty exciting to me...
School TV is a wonderful digital resource that is the foundation of Mental Health literacy. And it now has a multi-lingual function which means many more people can access it. Because parenting doesn’t come with instructions, SchoolTV is a wellbeing resource that can support you in the challenges relating to modern-day parenting.
This award-winning resource helps build relationships, foster connections, enable understanding and break down barriers to navigate a pathway towards better mental health and wellbeing for young people. It can assist in starting conversations on topics that are sometimes awkward or difficult to tackle. I'd like to really encourage you to use this resource.
A Special Report: R U OK?Day
Understanding the growing challenges related to mental health among young people is an important consideration. Anxiety, depression and self-harm - are all causes for concern. Factors like academic pressure, social media, family dynamics, and societal expectations, are contributing to these issues. It's therefore crucial for parents and caregivers to take action early, remove the stigma around discussing mental health, and offer accessible support to address these issues and the wellbeing of their children.
R U OK?Day is an initiative that focuses on preventing suicide by encouraging meaningful personal connections and helping informal support networks to help recognise the signs of distress. We urge all families to take part, emphasising the value of genuine human relationships and reminding everyone to ask the important question, "Are you OK?"
Engaging in R U OK?Day activities goes beyond the classroom; it's a commitment to our students' overall development. By talking openly about mental health, schools create safe spaces where students feel understood, valued, and supported. As parents and caregivers, you can contribute by fostering open conversations, normalising feelings and breaking down mental health stigmas. Participating in R U OK?Day promotes compassion and shows our dedication to the wellbeing of the entire school community, reaffirming that together, we can truly make a difference.
This Special Report provides guidance on how to talk to your child about mental health and engage in meaningful discussions.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.
