Dear Families
Welcome to the end of Term 3! Friday is the last day and dismissal is 1pm. We wish everyone a restful holiday. Please remember that the first day back at school for the students is Tuesday October 8th. Monday Oct 7th is a Professional Learning day for staff and includes First Aid training, so it is a student free day.
Father's Day
Recently we celebrated our Dads at school. Thank you so much to Jacqui Hume, Lucy Martiniano, Liza Marino and Emma Steendam who cooked the eggs and bacon for the breakfast. Without your organisation and help Jacqui the breakfast would not have happened. Thank you to Taryn for organizing a prayer service to honour our Dads. The Dads visited the classrooms and then joined Dr Chris Laming (local social worker) for a cappuccino in the Discovery Centre. Chris spoke to the Dads about mental health and their important role in our families. The Dads really enjoyed listening to each other.
As a follow up to this conversation, Dr Chris is going to run a Father's Group in the Parish Centre on Wednesday Nov 20th 5.30pm to 6.30. Gold Coin donation to cover the hot drinks. It's going to be called 'A Dad's Workshop' and you are welcome to bring a mate. The idea is to support Dad's in their very important role in our families. This workshop is open to all Dads in our community, not just school Dads.
Thank you God for our Dads....
Father's Day Prayer
God our Father, you gave Jesus
an earthly father, Joseph,
who cared for him when he was a child.
We thank you for our fathers
and grandfathers who care for us.
We ask you to bless all fathers
and all who take the place of fathers
in caring for children. Amen.
God bless,
Trish Mulqueen

Catholic Faith Journey for People of all Ages
We explore and celebrate the church's Mission in lots of ways in our school and parish. One important way is that we prepare students for the Sacraments. Sacraments are special blessings, aimed to strengthen us along life's journey. There are seven Sacraments in our Church: Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist (First Holy Communion), Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders and Anointing. We prepare students for Reconciliation in Gr 3, Eucharist in Gr 4 and Confirmation in Gr 5/6.
Sometimes at these special celebration times, families can show interest in or ask questions about becoming Catholic. Sometimes I hear families say at enrolment time, that they want this faith journey for their children, but that they just haven't got around to it yet. Perhaps now might be the right time...
I'd like to extend a warm invitation to you and your children.
Interested in exploring the Catholic Faith journey? We warmly invite you to join us! We're here to answer any questions you may have and can host an information session if you'd like. The process starts with Baptism and this can be celebrated at any age. If your child is interested then we could arrange a chat with Fr Bernard first and then a session with Gail, our Parish's Baptism coordinator. If you are interested in exploring this option for yourself, please feel especially welcome to chat with myself or Taryn, and then we'll talk with Fr Bernard and we'll work out some faith sessions to support you in exploring this path. These faith sessions are informative and thought provoking and can be arranged at suitable times for you, there are about 6 sessions. For adults, this process usually involves asking a sponsor to join you as a support. Adults are usually welcomed into the church at Easter time. Please know this is a welcoming invitation, certainly not an expectation. There is no doubt in my mind that faith is a gift that enhances and gives life meaning, it is not something forced upon us.
Taylor Sensei's Japanese Curry Recipe
Many students enjoyed the flavours of Japanese curry. You can look up the recipes on the internet, however I made a very simple version that was something my own children always enjoyed. Please be aware that the golden curry and the dashi both have gluten. Dashi is a fish stock, so obviously has fish products.
Chop carrot, potato, and cooked sausage. Put in a pot with peas and water to 2/3rds of the height of the veges. Add a packet of dashi. When all is cooked, grate in one or two cubes of curry mix and stir. It will thicken as you stir.
Serve with rice.
School Advisory Committee 2024
2024 School Advisory Committee Members are: Brett Hicks, Scott McCartin, Lauren Baldassa, Taryn Maxwell-Garratt, Fr Bernard Buckley, Kate Westbury, Megan Shiels and Trish Mulqueen. The Committee met on Wed July 24 and Church and Parish connection was discussed and staffing in Gr 3/4 was highlighted. The great work of the P&F was articulated, and the progress of the Masterplan was explained. The idea of before and after school care program was workshopped and the results of the survey discussed.
The group considered the question What can we affirm in our way of ‘being church together’ is working well? Ideas were discussed and people thought we were doing a great job in this space. It’s important to continue to welcome and invite people to our celebrations. Trish spoke about inviting people to learn about our faith.
More recently, the Committee met on Wed September 11.
The Committee workshopped the Father’s Group idea as a follow up to our Father’s Day celebrations. The Committee also talked about After School Care Program which we plan to have operational in term one 2025.
If you would like anything discussed at the School Advisory Committee, please see one of our members.
