Dear Families
Welcome to Spring! This week we are highlighting Child Safety Week. The theme is: Every Child in Every Community, needs a Fair Go. Every Conversation Matters.
Message From Ms Kathy Grass
Help needed.
God of love, as we celebrate Fathers’ Day,
may we appreciate the many ways that your face
is shown to us through our fathers’ love.
Help our Dads to know how much we love them
and to know how important they are in our families.
We pray for your blessing on all our fathers
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Marist Sports Day
Last week our Gr 4,5,6 students visited Marist Sion College to participate in Volleyball, Football and Soccer. The students had a great day and enjoyed their visit to Marist Sion College.
Japanese Day
On Wednesday we celebrated Japanese Day at school. We started the day with exercises outside (Japanese style), prayer in Japanese and we raised the Japanese Flag. Then we rotated around different Japanese activities including cooking, origami, cherry blossom painting and participating in a kahoot about our learning. In the afternoon we had some quiet, calming zen time and then we finished with the Tokyo Ondo Japanese dance. Thank you Susan Taylor for organising such a great day of learning.
R U OK? Day
Next week on Thursday September 12th it is R U OK? day. There is a special report on school TV about this and I highly suggest that you find some time to have a look at this. It is so important to be checking in with each other, to see if we are in fact, ok.
Day For Daniel
Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe and endeavours to raise
awareness of child safety, protection and harm prevention. This year, the 20th annual Day for Daniel will take place on Friday 25 October. Day for Daniel is Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day, which advocates for safer communities for children and empowering them to ‘Recognise, React and Report’ when they feel unsafe.
On Day for Daniel we are all encouraged to wear red, to create awareness for Child Safety.
The objectives of Day for Daniel are:
o To educate children regarding their personal safety (including abduction).
o To assist victims of crime, particularly where it involves children.
o To remember Daniel with suitable child safety community awareness events.
o To support the families of missing persons, particularly where it involves
children.
SPECIAL REPORT: R U OK?Day
Understanding the growing challenges related to mental health among young people is an important consideration. Anxiety, depression and self-harm - are all causes for concern. Factors like academic pressure, social media, family dynamics, and societal expectations, are contributing to these issues. It's therefore crucial for parents and caregivers to take action early, remove the stigma around discussing mental health, and offer accessible support to address these issues and the wellbeing of their children.
R U OK?Day is an initiative that focuses on preventing suicide by encouraging meaningful personal connections and helping informal support networks to help recognise the signs of distress. We urge all families to take part, emphasising the value of genuine human relationships and reminding everyone to ask the important question, "Are you OK?"
Engaging in R U OK?Day activities goes beyond the classroom; it's a commitment to our students' overall development. By talking openly about mental health, schools create safe spaces where students feel understood, valued, and supported. As parents and caregivers, you can contribute by fostering open conversations, normalising feelings and breaking down mental health stigmas. Participating in R U OK?Day promotes compassion and shows our dedication to the wellbeing of the entire school community, reaffirming that together, we can truly make a difference.
This Special Report provides guidance on how to talk to your child about mental health and engage in meaningful discussions.

Father’s Day Breakfast
Due to the wild weather early this week, our Father’s Day Breakfast had to be postponed. Instead it will go ahead this Monday the 9th of September from 8:30am. We hope this will work for families, it would be great to see lots of Dads or other special people come along to enjoy a bacon and egg breakfast and spend some time with their students.
We will need volunteers for the morning to help cook breakfast. If you are able to help, please let us know on the Green School page or via Lucy in the office.
Sports Dress Up Day and Lunch
Sports Dress Up Day is on Thursday the 19th of September. Students are encouraged to come to school dressed in their favourite sport. We will be offering a special lunch to compliment the day. Students will be able to order either a hot pie or sausage roll for lunch. Ordering will be available on CDF pay soon.
Comedy Night
Our Comedy Night will be on Friday the 25th of October. Posters with details of the lined up acts and how to order tickets will start appearing over the next few weeks. This was a fantastic night last year and we are looking forward to it being a great night again this year!
Catholic Faith Journey for People of all Ages
We explore and celebrate the church's Mission in lots of ways in our school and parish. One important way is that we prepare students for the Sacraments. Sacraments are special blessings, aimed to strengthen us along life's journey. There are seven Sacraments in our Church: Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist (First Holy Communion), Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders and Anointing. We prepare students for Reconciliation in Gr 3, Eucharist in Gr 4 and Confirmation in Gr 5/6.
Sometimes at these special celebration times, families can show interest in or ask questions about becoming Catholic. Sometimes I hear families say at enrolment time, that they want this faith journey for their children, but that they just haven't got around to it yet. Perhaps now might be the right time...
I'd like to extend a warm invitation to you and your children.
Interested in exploring the Catholic Faith journey? We warmly invite you to join us! We're here to answer any questions you may have and can host an information session if you'd like. The process starts with Baptism and this can be celebrated at any age. If your child is interested then we could arrange a chat with Fr Bernard first and then a session with Gail, our Parish's Baptism coordinator. If you are interested in exploring this option for yourself, please feel especially welcome to chat with myself or Taryn, and then we'll talk with Fr Bernard and we'll work out some faith sessions to support you in exploring this path. These faith sessions are informative and thought provoking and can be arranged at suitable times for you, there are about 6 sessions. For adults, this process usually involves asking a sponsor to join you as a support. Adults are usually welcomed into the church at Easter time. Please know this is a welcoming invitation, certainly not an expectation. There is no doubt in my mind that faith is a gift that enhances and gives life meaning, it is not something forced upon us.
