Hello families,
Thankyou to the families who supported our Trafalgar ANZAC day march. We especially thank our student leaders, Ayla Stokes and Scarlett Murto, who laid the wreath on our school's behalf. We were also privileged to have some family members walk with us, especially Alex Farrell (a former student who has recently worked in the Australian Defence Force).
Mother's Day Special Event
This year we are putting on an extra special Mother's Day Event, to pamper our precious Mums. Please see the below flyer for details. We really hope you and your friends and mothers can join us. We think you deserve something special.
Mother's Day Prayer
Loving God, we thank you for all mothers,
for all that they share with us,
and do for us.
We thank you especially
for our mothers' love,
which is always there for us.
Jesus cared for and loved
his own mother, Mary;
we ask you to help us always
to appreciate and love our mothers.
Open Day
Gr 4/5 Teaching Mass
Today's planned Teaching Mass had to be postponed until next week, it will be held on Thursday May 9th at 10am in our church. We hope you can join us.
Friday May 10th 'Do It For Dolly' Day & National Walk Safe to School Day
Join us on May 10 2024 to remember Dolly, raise awareness to END BULLYING, and share the Dolly’s Dream message to be kind and speak, even if your voice shakes. Everyone is encouraged to wear something blue this day to raise awareness. If we are talking about bullying and ways to stop it, there is less chance that we will be witnessing bullying.
It is also 'National Walk Safe to School Day', so we are encouraging everyone to walk or ride to school especially on this day. Walking or riding is great physical exercise and helps us to arrive at school feeling ready to learn. Please feel free to organise meeting a friend somewhere to walk together from, if you know other families that live close to you, you might organise for the students to walk together. We will have fruit at school when your child arrives and there are some promotional stickers and tattoos for us to enjoy.
May God continue to bless and guide us in our learning,
Trish Mulqueen
In this edition of SchoolTV - MANAGING SCREEN TIME
As a result of the global pandemic, there has been a noticeable shift in the amount of time people spend on screen-based devices. Families are transitioning back to pre-COVID routines but many are still struggling to re-establish the boundaries and rules around screen use. Some continue to deal with digital conflict and tech-tantrums on a daily basis. The latest research found that 77% of teenagers spend more than five hours on screens per day, but it is important to note that not all screen time is considered equal.
Parents play a crucial role in modelling a positive and healthy approach to using screens and assisting children to navigate the content they watch. It is better to model and mentor screen use, rather than monitor it. Children tend to do more of what they see us do, and less of what we tell them to do. However, it is still important to outline the risks and highlight the benefits of screen use to ensure you keep a balanced attitude. Encourage discussions around the issues that people experience in monitoring their screen time and be honest about your own difficulties.
Parents need to remain firm in their approach to managing screen time. Excessive screen time can be detrimental to a child’s overall wellbeing. Ensuring the correct privacy settings are in place is vital to prevent children from being inadvertently exposed to inappropriate content or online predators. Parents need to also be mindful of the potential impact screen time can have on a child’s social, emotional, educational, behavioural, and even physical domains.
In this edition of SchoolTV, care-givers will be provided with a range of guidelines and strategies to help manage screen time at home.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.

Mother’s Day Stall
Our Mother’s Day Stall will be on Friday the 10th of May. Students will be able to purchase a gift for Mum for $5, $10, $15 or $20. We are also providing Nan/Grandma gifts for either $10 or $15.
Please order and pay via CDF pay by Monday the 6th of May.
It is really important we have the orders in by Monday to ensure all students have the opportunity to purchase a gift. We unfortunately cannot guarantee gifts will be available for late orders, so we really appreciate orders being made on time.
Mother’s Day Celebration
We will be having a special Mother’s Day celebration on Thursday the 9th of May at school. It will include afternoon tea, guest speaker Samantha Bingham and a short gratitude prayer service. The cost is $10 per person. It would be wonderful to see lots of Mums come along for the celebration and we hope you are able to make it on Thursday.
Lunch orders
We are offering a weekly lunch order each Thursday from K Lee’s kitchen at the Willow Grove general store. Students have the option to order either a small or large lunch box with enough food to cover both snack and lunch. The boxes include fruit, vegetables, cheese and crackers, a choice of sandwiches and a choice of either a muffin or yogurt.
Please place orders on CDF pay by noon each Wednesday and the lunch order will be delivered to students on Thursday.
Our school, along with the 45 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Sale, will celebrate Catholic Education Week from 17 May to 24 May. The theme for this year’s celebrations is, A New Dialogue of Love, Hope and Joy, inspired by the Scripture
passage, ‘See, I am Making All Things New’ (Rev. 21:5). This theme symbolises an optimistic and hope-filled perspective on the world and a renewed approach to
fostering positive change. The theme emphasises the belief that transformation and renewal are possible in all aspects of life through individual choices. By following the life and teachings of Jesus, and embracing principles of compassion, peace, goodness, and justice, individuals can contribute to a more hopeful and joyful world, sowing seeds of positivity and hope.
Through this theme, Catholic schools aim to inspire young people to reflect on the Christian message and to showcase their efforts in contributing to creating a better world.
The hope is for staff, students, families, and parishes to embrace this meaningful time and for schools to celebrate their distinctive mission and share features that are special about their schools. Members of staff will be attending a Leadership Eucharist and Awards ceremony to celebrate and recognise outstanding service and excellence of staff and students in Catholic Education in our Diocese at
presentations during Catholic Education Week.
Our school will also hold a number of activities including a special assembly on Friday May 17th at 3pm and our Open Day on Monday May 2oth 3pm to 5.30pm. Everyone is welcome.
