Dear Families
At this time in the world we especially pray for PEACE. Andrew Chinn visited our school recently and he has composed this lovely song about peace. It only takes two minutes to listen to it. I hope you are able to find a few minutes to be still and listen to his message. Here is the link...

Lions Club Public Speaking Final
On Sunday October 8th the Lions Club Regional Public Speaking Final was held at the Trafalgar Community Centre. Jaylah Shields represented our region in the Gr 3 & 4 section. She participated especially well and we are all very proud of her and her efforts. Thanks especially to Emma Poore (Learning Support Officer) for organising our school's Public Speaking program.

This year St Joseph’s Primary School has teamed up with the West Gippsland Healthcare Group (WGHG) to kick start our commitment to the Vic Kids Eat Well Initiative. The partnership has so far been a huge success in raising awareness about the importance of eating healthy and wholesome food and drinks at school, which we know helps kids learn better. It’s about looking after our bodies and caring for our environment by reducing plastic waste.
We have a new healthy challenge for next week. It's called 'The Real Deal Challenge'. The real deal refers to real fruit and/or real vegetables. Each student is encouraged to bring 2 serves of fruit &/or vegetables to eat in class time. We have two designated fruit or vegetable times in class (10am & 2pm). Each class will have a recording sheet where they write down how many pieces of fruit and/or vegetables the class consumes at 10am Real Deal time and then again at 2pm Real Deal time. At the end of the week the Gr 6 SRC leaders will collect the recording sheets and work out the average percentage score for each class and the class with the highest score will receive healthy icypoles at lunchtime on Friday. The aim of the challenge is to encourage all students to have at least 2 serves of fruit and /or vegetables at school in learning time.
2023 School Fees are now due.
Halloween Disco
Our Halloween Disco is happening next week on Wednesday the 25th of October, from 5:30pm to 7pm, in the Mary McKillop room.
Students are encouraged to dress up and there will be music, games and more.
Tickets cost $15 each and includes hot chips. We are also selling glow sticks and lolly bags as extras. Please place orders on CDF pay as soon as possible.
We will need parents to volunteer to help out on the night. If you have a WWC and are available, please let us know. Your help is greatly appreciated!
Healthy Lunches
We continue to offer a healthy salad roll lunch day each Wednesday. Please place orders on CDF pay by noon each Tuesday and a freshly made salad roll from Bella’s Bakehouse will be delivered to students for lunch on Wednesday. $1.20 from each order goes to the school fundraising efforts.
Colour Run
We will again be having our popular Colour Run this year on Friday the 1st of December. More information about the Colour Run will be available as it gets closer.
Christmas Raffle
We plan to have a Christmas Raffle at the end of term. We will soon ask parents to kindly donate items to go towards the prizes. If anyone has any connection to a business that might be interested in donating a larger item to go towards the prizes, please let us know, it will help to make our raffle bigger and better!
World Teacher's Day Friday 27 October 2023
On World Teachers’ Day, we would like to recognise and thank all staff in Catholic Schools
in the Diocese of Sale for their hard work and dedication.
We have started practising for our School Concert. We are asking families to provide some simple costumes for their child. We will organise some additional items if needed. The costumes for each grade are outlined below. If you don't have what you need, I suggest you visit a few op shops to get what your child needs.
F/1: jeans, white T shirt, cap
Gr 1/2: jeans, white T shirt, basketball jersey if you have one.
Gr 3: jeans, white T shirt, runners
Gr 4/5: blue jeans, any coloured T shirt
Gr 5/6: baggy pants or colouful pants, colourful shirts or tank tops
We will be having a Full Dress Rehearsal on Wednesday November 1st at school, all students need to bring their costume to school on this day. Then on Thursday November 2nd we will travel by bus to Lowanna College in Newborough and have a practice run through (students do not need their costumes for this practice).
Then later that day, families are asked to meet us at Lowanna College for the performance. We ask that students are at Lowanna at 6pm fully dressed and the show starts at 6.30pm.
We are all really looking forward to our School Concert.
One of the most important things we do each year at school is to prepare the students for the Sacraments. Sacraments are special blessings in our faith and aim to help us along our faith journey. In Gr 3 we prepare for and celebrate Reconciliation, in Gr 4 we prepare for and celebrate Eucharist and in Gr 6 we prepare for and celebrate Confirmation. This term Harry Westbury, Maycee Shankar and Ethan Jamieson are preparing for their First Holy Communion (the Sacrament of Eucharist). There are a number of preparations:
Teaching Mass will happen at school on Tuesday 24 October at 10am in the church. Everyone is welcome to join us.
Parent/Child Workshop St Joseph’s Church Warragul: Thurs 26th October 4pm or 7pm
Reconciliation will happen at school sometime in week 6 or 7.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION MASS will be celebrated on Saturday 18 November 6pm in St John’s Church, Trafalgar. Everyone is welcome to celebrate with us. We especially remember Harry, Maycee and Ethan in our prayers.
