Dear Families
This week we are celebrating Book Week. The theme for 2023 is READ, GROW, INSPIRE ! On Tuesday everyone was invited to come dressed as a book character or something to do with the theme. The staff came dressed as fruits and vegetables to relate to the GROW part of the theme and also to promote our healthy message in the Vic Kids Eat Well program. We started the day with a parade and Christa Shankar, Amy Finken and Laura Castello judged the class who danced positively to their song as they paraded in the Mary Mac Room. This class got to have a healthy smoothie at lunchtime using the Smoothie Bike. The winning class was Gr 5/6.

National Day of Action Against Bullying
Last week we highlighted the National Day of Action Against Bullying by wearing orange to raise awareness of this issue.
The theme for 2023 was 'growing connections'. It supports the research findings that strong school community connections and social skills are protective factors in the prevention of bullying and help enable positive, help-seeking behaviours in students. Everyone was invited to wear orange as a way of raising awareness of this issue and to say No to Bullying. We can each make a difference by standing up to the inappropriate behaviour.
Families were encouraged to have conversations with the children and young people in their lives to further their understanding of the many different forms of bullying, range of responses to bullying and ways to prevent bullying. The more we talk about this issue, the more informed students are to stop it.
We are also focussing on Healthy Eating and Living and combined the two important messages of eating well and No Bullying, by students eating oranges and wearing orange on the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence.

Mini Vinnies Talent Show
Lions Club Public Speaking Final
Last week Jaylah Shields and Liana Eerhard participated in the Final at the Trafalgar Community Centre. Ms Emma Poore attended and supported the girls at the Final. They both performed especially well and Jaylah was successful in winning her section and proceeding to the Regional Final. We wish her all the very best. Congratulations to both Liana and Jaylah for your effort and work in this competition.

May God continue to bless and guide us in our learning.

Konnichiwa,
On Wednesday September 13th we will have a Japanese day.
Students are invited to wear red or/and white, or to dress up in something Japanese. At the beginning of the day we will do ‘rajio taiso’, the radio exercises that are often done in schools and workplaces each morning. Parents are invited to join us from 9-9:15 and participate in the exercises.
At the end of the day we will do the Japanese festival dance Tokyo Ondo. It is a whole school circle dance. We invite parents to either watch, or even better join in. This will be from 3:15 until 3:30.
Some of the activities during the day will include Japanese cooking, origami, and calligraphy.

We invite our Dads and special friends to school on Monday September 4th at 8.15am to celebrate you and to spend some quality time with you. The P&F will provide a free cooked breakfast at school, followed by a short gathering and prayer at 8.50am. After this we will go to the classrooms to join in an activity together. The students will be arranged in their colored teams so that siblings will be together. We plan to have a variety of activities for you and your child/ren to choose from. We anticipate that this celebration will conclude at 9.30am. We hope you can join us.
Grade 5/6 students: Fenn Towb, Summer Parise, Liana Eerhard, Tahlia Pedemont, Zander Murto, Evie Lowe, and Bryce Varley have been enthusiastically crafting the script for our much-anticipated school concert in November. With unwavering dedication, these talented students have poured their creative efforts into this project during Interest-Based Learning sessions, as well as generously investing lunchtimes and every available moment to bring their vision to fruition. They are eager for their hard work to come to life and look forward to sharing their creation with the school community.
The school concert is on Thursday November 2nd at Lowanna College, Newborough. Please mark this date in your diaries.

Habits learnt in childhood can last a life-time. It’s important to help young
children develop a positive attitude to healthy foods, and for adults to role
model healthy eating habits.

Here is a message from Jodie Deppeler, the bus coordinator at Trafalgar High School:
I am sure that we have all seen the news and are aware that there have been 3 bus incidents this term, one with multiple fatalities, and one with severe injuries and amputations.
I am writing to parents to ask for your support in talking with your students about the importance of always wearing seatbelts on the school bus. We have a strict bus policy and we want all our bus travellers to make it to and from school safely each and every day.
I got on all the buses last night to remind students that seat belts are not negotiable, and if any student has a problem with wearing a seatbelt they will be taken off the bus and parents WILL be called to come and collect them.
I have also told the bus drivers and students that if ANY student removes their seat belt, the bus driver will stop the bus.
I hope we can work together on this to keep our travellers safe.
Thanks in advance, Jodie
SPECIAL REPORT: Celebrating Father’s Day
Today things have changed dramatically with many Dads being celebrated for being sensitive, caring and more hands-on. Research has shown that the amount of time fathers are now spending teaching, helping and playing with their children, has trebled. This has transformed our understanding of how fathers shape their children’s lives from the start, challenging conventional ideas of parenthood and gender.
Fathers who involve themselves in physical activity with their children, play a key role in influencing them to learn self-control, face challenges, regulate emotions and take manageable risks. However, to be a great Dad, you need to also indulge in a little self-care and look after your own mental health. This allows you to be more responsive to your child’s needs, and engage more readily in play and learning activities.
If you are a Dad and struggling a little bit, it is advisable to seek help from a medical professional. Or, if you just want to talk to someone who understands, you can call one of the following organisations.
In Australia, phone MensLine on 1300 78 99 78 or Beyond Blue on 1300 22 46 36.
