Hello families
There is no doubt in my mind that we have created a positive and energetic school community. Very often when we ask for something, someone pops up and says they can help. I can't tell you how appreciative we are for your extra help and dedication to our school. Recently, our big Spiderweb play equipment needed some adjusting and Steve Deppeler came quickly to our rescue. Thank you Steve! The kids were especially grateful in this instance as they love playing on this.
Lions Club Public Speaking Competition
Recently the Trafalgar Lions Club organised a public speaking competition. Participating schools were invited to host their own School Competition, supported by Lions Club members.
Fifteen students from St Joseph’s Primary School Trafalgar participated in the Lion’s Club Public Speaking Competition. We congratulate Asher, Olivia Pedemont, Pippa, Lilly, Jaylah, Joan, Zara, Sienna Jamieson, Remi Schelfhout, Liana, Miranda, Tahlia, Ava Harvey, Chloe Mynard and Thomas Kennedy for participating in this competition. The students all worked extremely hard putting together a speech to present to their peers. Congratulations to the Year 5/6 winner Liana Eerhard and Year 3/4 winner Jaylah Shields, who will both progress to the Lions Club Final scheduled on the 16th August.
Well done to all the students who participated in this extracurricular activity and thankyou to the Lion’s Club for having a fantastic program which builds student’s confidence in public speaking.

PJ Day
Last Tuesday our Mini Vinnies team organised a PJ day. Everyone was invited to donate a gold coin donation for the privilege and fun of wearing PJs to school. The money raised from this event will go to Back Pack Beds for the homeless in Melbourne. The Mini Vinnies team wanted to support this charity. We raised over $110. Thank you everyone for supporting this event.

Holden Museum Excursion
Last week the students in F/1/2/3 walked to the Holden Museum to explore general items and cars of years gone by. The excursion helped the students to better understand life from an historical perspective. Thank you to the staff who helped to plan and facilitate this event.

New Student Leaders
We have three new student leaders in Gr 6, congratulations to Noah Plozza, Kirah Shields and Bryce Varley. We look forward to your leadership in the coming five weeks.
Dear God,
Please bless all Grandparents.
Thank you for the life they gave through our parents and ourselves
For the ways they help us and make us strong,
We Give Thanks
For the ways they love us, no matter what,
We Rejoice
For the ways they have paved the road that leads us here
We Are Grateful
Let them grow in wisdom and joy in life,
Let them find peace and rest from their work,
Let them be healed of every sickness and pain
And let them see with their own eyes, the glory of your Son, Jesus,
in the love of their Children and Grandchildren
Bless them always until they come to rest in you
We ask this through Christ our Lord Amen

We celebrate Book Week in week 7, ie Monday August 21st to Friday 25th. The theme this year is Read, Grow, Inspire. Our dress up day is Tuesday 22nd August. Everyone is invited to dress up in either a book character or something to do with the theme. We will start the day with a parade to show off our costumes, everyone is welcome to join us.
Book Fair
This year our Book Fair will operate in week 4, ie Tuesday 1st August to Thursday 3rd August. It will be in room 2 and open to families to purchase on each of these days from 3 to 4pm. A percentage of each book sale goes to our school, but really the Book Fair is an opportunity to celebrate literacy and promote reading to families.

A reminder to families that forms for T-shirts for the National Day of Action Against Bullying are due on August the 4th. Students are encouraged to wear the shirts on Friday the 18th of August to show their support against bullying.
The shirts look fantastic, they are black with bright orange writing and cost $15 each. A sample shirt can be viewed in the office. Thank you to school family business Blended Kreations for making the shirts for us.
Healthy Lunches
Parents and Friends continue to offer a weekly healthy lunch order day. Please remember to place orders by noon each Tuesday for a freshly made salad roll from Bella’s Bakehouse to be delivered for lunch on Wednesday.
Comedy Night
We are very excited to announce our Comedy Night has been booked for Friday the 1st of September and it will be held at the Trafalgar Bowls Cub.
Posters promoting the night will start appearing soon along with tickets sales. Tickets will cost $40 each and include some extras!
Father’s Day Stall
We will be running a Father’s Day Stall this term on Thursday the 31st of August at 2pm. On Monday the 4th of September there will be a special Father’s Day breakfast at school from 8:30am. We hope all the Dads will be able to attend.
Uniform Shop
If anyone has a stash of brown paper carry bags from Coles or Woolies at home and wants them to be reused, please pass them to us as they are 'just right' for uniform orders to be delivered to families. So please save your reusable brown paper carry bags and we'll put them to great use. Thank you!
Next meeting
Our next meeting is on Tuesday the 22nd of August at 3pm at school.
Parents and Friends is a great way to get involved, meet people and help raise money for the benefit of our school community.
We are working towards raising enough to fund new playground equipment for our students to enjoy.
If you would like to get involved, please come along to our next meeting, you will always be welcome!
Next week we will run our 5 day swimming program from Monday December 2nd through to Friday December 6th. The students will travel by bus to Warragul Leisure Centre each day to participate in a 45 minute swimming lesson by trained swimming teachers. This is an important part of the curriculum and it is expected that all students will participate. Please access the information note and the permission on PAM. Your child is encouraged to either wear their bathers to school under their uniform or bring their bathers (this is a good option if your child has a one piece suit) in a smaller bag to take swimming. We are looking for parent helpers, especially in the junior classes. All helpers must have a current Working with Children's Check. Please see the attached timetable. If you are able to help please let your classroom teacher know.

Parent /Teacher / Student Interviews
In week 6 on Wednesday August 16th we are running our Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews. Please note that Gr 3 Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews will be taking place the following Wednesday, that is 23rd August, this is to ensure that both class teachers will be present at the interviews. This is part of our reporting process. It is an opportunity for teachers and families to discuss the Semester 1 Report and to talk about how teachers can best meet your child/ren’s needs. Conversations are scheduled for 15 minutes. Families will be given the opportunity to chose to have the interviews either at school or via Google Meet. We ask you to book your Interview online through PAM, this function is available now on PAM. When accessing PAM please click on the link Parent Teacher Interviews and follow the prompts. Families who have regualr SAEP (Student Adjustment Evaluation Plan) or PSGs (Parent Support Group) Meetings will not need to book an interview time as they will have an opportunity to discuss their child/ren's reports in week 5.
