Dear Families
Welcome to Winter!
Sacred Heart of Jesus School Mass
Next week we celebrate the church feast day of Sacred Heart of Jesus on Friday June 16th with Mass in our church at 10am, everyone is welcome to join us. Traditionally in our church this is the time where we think of other people in our community who are less fortunate than us and we ask families to support our St Vincent de Paul parish group by donating non-perishable items. Non-perishable items can include food items like canned soup or vegetables, pasta, rice, tea/coffee, cereals, spreads and toiletries. We have some boxes clearly labelled at the office that you can put your donations in. When we have collected all our school donations, we put them in the St Vincent de Paul pantry and then the parish St Vincent de Paul group give them out to families in need.
New Gr 6 Student Leaders
We congratulate Ivy Chapman, Chloe Mynard and Evie Lowe on being announced as our next Student Leaders. We look forward to your work in our school.
Mini Vinnies Bake Sale
Last week our Mini Vinnies team organised a Bake Sale. The team of students who organised it did a particularly good job of planning and setting up and then selling the produce at the Bake Sale. The Bake Sale raised $838.35 Congratulations Mini Vinnies team.
Casual Clothes Day
Mini Vinnies are conducting a Casual Clothes day on Tuesday June 13th. Everyone is invited to bring a gold coin donation to school, in exchange for the privilege of wearing casual clothes to school. The Mini Vinnies team will decide where this donation money will go. So remember, Casual Clothes day Tuesday 13th.
Birthdays
At school we highlight birthdays in our Monday morning assemblies where the children receive an award and we sing Happy Birthday in Japanese to them. In classes teachers often highlight when children are celebrating their birthdays. It is school policy that we don't celebrate with food or lollies. These treats are best kept for celebrations at home, not at school please.
Arrival at school
It is best to arrive at school from 8.30am onwards, so children have time to unpack their bags and get organised before school starts. We have an early bus that arrives at 8.10am and this is when supervision starts. Your child is not to arrive at school before 8.10 in the morning. It is unsafe as teachers are not on duty.
New Parish Website
We have a new Parish website:
http://www.stjohnstrafalgar.com.au/
You can find out Mass times and Parish News here.
School Reports
We report formally to families four times during the year. In term one we have parent/teacher chats early in the school year, at the end of term 2 we have written school reports, in term 3 we have formal parent/teacher interviews and in term 4 we have our final written school reports. The report that goes home at the end of this term goes home on Monday June 19th. You will be able to access your child's report on PAM. Additionally to the above formal communications, you are always welcome to message, phone or check in with your child's teacher to see how your child is going. Please remember teachers are very busy and it is best to arrange a catch up time rather than just popping in and hoping to see the teacher.
Please remember the last day of this term is Wednesday June 21st. Dismissal is 3.30pm.
Extra Professional Learning Day for Teachers
On Monday July 17th our staff has the special opportunity to engage in a Professional Learning day focussed on meeting student's individual needs highlighting the importance of wellbeing. Presenters from DOSCEL (Diocese of Sale Catholic Education Ltd) will be conducting the day, we are grateful for this learning opportunity. Monday July 17th will be a student free day so that teachers can participate in this professional learning opportunity.
Enrolments for 2024
We are taking enrolments for 2024 now. If you have a child at 4yr old kinder presently, please call into the office to collect an enrolment pack. If you know anyone with a 4 year old child ready for school, I'd like to encourage you to suggest our school to them. Enrolment packs are available at the office. I'd also like to suggest 'Storytime' as a positive actiivity that certainly helps with transition to school. Please feel free to suggest this to all your friends and family. 'Storytime' is on Wednesdays in room 5 at 9.15 to 9.45am.
May God continue to bless and guide us in our learning.

Assemblies
Pie Drive
Today is the last day families can place orders for our Pie Drive through Yarragon Country Style Bakery. Please place orders on CDF pay as soon as possible so you don’t miss out. Unfortunately we cannot accept late orders as we need to pass the numbers onto the bakery for the pies to be made.
Pies will be delivered to school on Thursday the 15th of June and will be available for families to collect at the end of the school day.
Healthy Lunches
A reminder that we are providing a healthy salad roll lunch day every Wednesday. Please place orders on CDF pay by noon each Tuesday and a freshly made salad roll from Bella’s Bakehouse will be delivered to school for lunch on Wednesday.
T-Shirts
The National Day of Action Against Bullying is Friday the 18th of August and everyone is encouraged to wear orange to create awareness. You can come dressed in anything orange. We are selling Tshirts to support the day if you are interested. Students will be able to wear the t-shirts to school on the day. The shirts will be black with bright orange writing and are available in sizes 4 to 16. They cost $15 each.
Forms have been sent home with students and are due back with payment on the 4th of August.
We would like to thank Blended Kreations, a business run by one of our school families, for making the t-shirts for us.

We are excited and looking forward to hosting a Comedy Night in term three. At this stage it is likely to be in September. Watch this space for more information!
