First Holy Communion (Eucharist)
One of the most important things we do each year at school is to prepare the students for the Sacraments. Sacraments are special blessings in our faith and aim to help us along our faith journey. This term Alex Jacobs is preparing for his First Holy Communion (the Sacrament of Eucharist). As part of the preparation for Eucharist, the candidates and their families revisit the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we will celebrate the second rite of Reconciliation at St John’s Church, Trafalgar on Saturday 26th November, at 10am. Everyone is welcome.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION MASS will be celebrated on Saturday 3rd December 6pm in St John’s Church, Trafalgar. Everyone is welcome to celebrate with us. We especially remember Alex in our prayers.
Open a Food Truck (Project Based Learning for Gr 4/5/6)
The students in Grades 4/5/6 are currently learning about economics
in a very practical sense. They are going to open a Food Truck and
provide a special lunch for students in another grade for one day. The
project requires the students to design a food truck and logo, plan a
menu and sell their goods with the hope of making a profit. It is an
open-ended unit that will have these students surveying the younger
students and the teachers to identify likes and dislikes allowing them
to make an informed decision about their menu. As part of the
business plan, they will need to create a logo, advertise the menu,
create order forms, shopping lists, price lists and sell their product.
Finally, the students will make the products and sell them to the
particular grade that they are providing for.
It is hoped that in the end of the process that the students will make a
profit. All profits will be donated to a charity of choice. This is yet to be
decided upon.
Dates for the special lunches are:
Grade F/1: Mon 5th Dec
Grade 1/2: Tues 6th Dec
Grade 2/3: Mon 12th Dec
Teachers: Fri 9th of Dec
In the near future, classes will be sending home order forms for the
students to order what they would like to buy on that day. All orders
need to be prepaid by the specified date to enable ingredients to be
purchased in time for the menu items to be prepared for sale.
Please note that this task is all about the learning for the students.
Therefore, it is important that all orders are sent to school by the due
date. NO LATE ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED as all money is
required to purchase the shopping prior to the day. Also, CORRECT
MONEY MUST BE SENT TO SCHOOL with the order in a clearly
labelled envelope as no change will be given.
Your support of this learning task would be greatly appreciated. The
learning in this project is enormous and the students are really
excited about it. More information will be coming out shortly.
Thank you for your support
Kind regards
Grade 4/5/6 Team
School refusal is a complex issue as there is rarely a single cause. It affects children of all ages across primary and secondary levels. It can often occur during times of transition at school. More recently, the Coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the educational experience of all students, affecting some more than others. Dealing with a school refusal child can affect the whole family, adding pressure to an already challenging time. School refusal is not considered a formal psychiatric diagnosis. It’s a name given to an emotional and/or behavioural problem.
In this edition of SchoolTV, adult carers will learn how best to approach this issue and work towards a solution.

Victorian Child Safe Standards Continued
Child Safe Standard 10: Implementation of the Child Safe Standards
is regularly reviewed and improved.
In complying with Child Safe Standard 10, St Joseph’s School ensure:
that child safety is a regular item of focus in our school’s annual review processes
our review of Child Safety Policies allows us to determine whether our practices and
child safety systems within the school are effective and if not, what changes we need
to do to prevent any further harm.
we analyse complaints, concerns and safety incidents so that as a school we can
determine underlying issues, indications of gaps in our processes and policies,
patterns in behaviour, indications that people in our school community do not
understand our Child Safe Policies and procedures
when we report on our review findings that we:
1. share findings in a timely manner
2. that we communicate findings in a child friendly way
3. that we use our learnings from the review to plan for making adjustments to our
Child Safe policies and practices.
4. Protect people’s confidentiality
Child Safe Standard 11: Policies and procedures document how the
organisation is safe for children and young people
In complying with Child Safe Standard 11, St Joseph’s School ensure:
- that rules and expectations are clear about Child Safety at our school. These rules and
expectations are formalised in policy and shared within our school community to
help to embed child safety consistency through our whole school community.
- our policies and procedures are simply written and aim to promote
wellbeing and prevent and respond to child safety issues. Policies are the
documented rules and the procedures are the documented actions and processes.
- that children, families and community members have the opportunity to contribute to
the development of child safety policies and procedures. This is evident in receiving
student, family and staff input via conversations, P and F, School Advisory
Committee meetings, staff meetings and opportunities for professional
Development in how to recognise and respond to child safety incidents.
- that we tap into the expertise and previous experiences of other organisations and
experts.
Last Friday night our P&F group organised a fantastic Trivia Night at the Bowling Club. Thank you so much to the Committee who really did put on a wonderful night.
