Dear Families
Welcome to Term 2. Last Friday a number of our students and staff represented our school at the Trafalgar ANZAC day march. Thank you to the families who supported this important community event. Chaise and Harry laid a wreath at the cenotaph on our behalf.

The Easter Story
On the last day of term 1 we gathered in our church to remember The Easter Story. We participated in a meaningful and reflective way. The senior students acted out the Stations of the Cross. We were all so proud of their presentation, they truly are great leaders. Thank you Mrs Wendy Oates, Mrs MG. and Gr 5 & 6. Here are some photos from their presentation...

Easter Prayer
Alleluia! Alleluia!
You are here, Lord.
You have risen from the dead.
We thank you for the sacrifice you made for us-
for your suffering and death on the cross,
so that we may have eternal life.
May we, your Easter people, carry the joy of the Resurrection
within us wherever we go.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
New Student Leaders
Chaise Hicks and Maycee Shankar are our new Gr 6 Student Leaders. We congratulate Chaise and Maycee and look forward to their leadership in the coming weeks.
Mother's Day Celebrations
We have a special celebration planned for our Mums on Friday May 9th. Please see information on the below flyer. We hope you can join us.
SRC Surveys
Each year we engage in School Improvement Surveys. We randomly select 20 families to complete the survey and we use this data to direct our school priorities in School Improvement. Emails will be sent directly to the families to access the survey. Thank you in anticipation of completing the survey, we are very interested in your feedback. The closing date of the survey is Monday May 12th.
We strongly encourage students NOT to bring these devices to school. The rules around mobile phones have changed slightly, that is, from now on, if your child needs to bring a mobile phone to school then it must be handed in at the office on their way into school and then picked up at the end of the day. It is your child's responsibility to remember to collect their mobile phone.
Student smartwatches are ONLY to be used for telling the time during school hours. Smartwatches must have ‘school mode’ enabled which limits the smartwatch to telling the time with no other functionality. Student smartwatches that are not able to be restricted to telling the time only, with no other functionality, must be handed in to the office, at the beginning of the school day and collected at the end of the school day. It is my opinion that primary school students do not need a smart watch, it is much better to teach them to tell the time using an analogue clock.
Dear parents and carers,
Ahead of the Federal election on 3 May, I wanted to share some important information for you to consider as you make your voting decision.
Catholic schools play a vital role in Victoria’s education system with our sector educating one in five Victorian students.
Australian Government recurrent and capital funding is critical to ensuring that our students have access to the quality learning and teaching programs and facilities that they need to achieve their full potential.
In Monash there are 3,899 students across the 12 schools in the electorate from 2,599 families. All students and families in Catholic schools in Monash should be able to have confidence in ongoing Federal support for their choice to access a high-quality Catholic education.
The Liberal National coalition has committed to continuing current funding arrangements for Catholic schools into the future.
The Catholic sector has written to the Independents running in Monash. As of 29 April we have received a position from Independent candidate Deb Leonard advising she supports the continued funding of Catholic schools at the current level into the future.
Please take this letter into consideration ahead of the Federal election and thank you for your ongoing support of our school.
Regards,
Trish Mulqueen
School TV SPECIAL REPORT Celebrating Mother's Day
The very first Mother’s Day was celebrated in West Virginia in 1908. It was organised by Ann Jarvis as a memorial to honour her beloved mother who spent much of her life helping others. Ann’s mother devoted her life to educating mothers and improving sanitary conditions to stem her community’s appalling infant mortality rates. By 1911, Ann had successfully campaigned to have Mother's Day recognised as a national holiday in most US states honouring all mothers, living and deceased. It was not until 1924 that Mother’s Day was officially celebrated in Australia with the help of Janet Heyden. She had campaigned for donations to assist lonely and aged mothers in a Sydney hospital making personal requests to many leading business houses and enlisting the help of local school children to help fill small bags with donated goods.
Today, Mother’s Day is a more of a commercial venture, but it is important to remember the true nature and meaning of Mother’s Day and mark it with sincerity, especially now in the post-pandemic environment we currently find ourselves in. Mothers have played multiple roles over recent months providing care and support to those they love under difficult circumstances, often putting the needs of others ahead of their own. However, Mothers sometimes need reminding to also take care of themselves, especially when it comes to mental health. A mother who experiences good mental health, is more available to her children and family, more alert to their needs, and more able to engage in everyday activities.
If you are a Mum and struggling a little bit, it is advisable to seek help from a medical professional. Or, if you just want to talk to someone who understands, you can always call Beyond Blue on 1300 22 46 36.

2025 School Advisory Committee Members are: Brett Hicks, Scott McCartin, Lauren Baldassa, Taryn Maxwell-Garratt, Fr Bernard Buckley, Kate Westbury, Megan Shiels and Trish Mulqueen. The Committee met on Wed May 14th.
The Church/Parish connection was discussed with the film event ‘The King of Kings’ being promoted and the work of the Mini Vinnies team being highlighted. Trish reported on the P&F happenings. The Building Project to update staff facilities will start as soon as the building permit is obtained, we hope this will be in the coming weeks. The Committee reviewed the school’s Digital Learning Policy and Mobile Phone & Smart Watch Policy.
